Field Care

We offer personalized service tailored to your vision with a satisfaction-focused approach.

Field Care Overview

The work you do in the field makes all the difference when it comes to your finished mount. Keep your animal cool, dry, and clean as soon as possible after the shot. Take your time when field dressing, and avoid unnecessary cuts that could impact the final look. If you’re not getting it to us right away, cape it correctly or freeze it as soon as possible. Remember—heat and moisture are your biggest enemies. Not sure what to do? Give us a call anytime—we’d rather answer questions early than try to fix preventable damage later.

Turkeys

Turkeys require extra care since even a few lost feathers are noticeable. For optimal preservation...

  • Take the shot when the turkey's head is up
  • Reach the bird quickly and pick it up to prevent feather loss from flopping
  • Do NOT gut turkeys
  • Handle gently during photos and transport
  • If you cannot get it to us immediately, freeze the whole bird as soon as possible

Big Game

We are happy to cape your trophy at no cost if we are available. If you are taking your trophy to a butcher, make sure to inform them that you are going to get it mounted.

  • Dragging a specimen can damage its cape; for best results, roll it onto a tarp or sled before dragging
  • Cool the animal quickly by removing internal organs and allowing air circulation
  • Avoid excessive handling that may damage hair or hide
  • Keep blood, dirt, and debris off the cape whenever possible
  • Do not make unnecessary cuts forward of the rib cage
  • Be sure to leave plenty of skin for us to work with
  • If you cannot get it to us immediately; freeze the cape and head as soon as possible
  • Store the cape and head in a heavy duty garbage bag

Fish

Photos are crucial for fish, as they fade in color quickly after death. Take pictures promptly.

  • Take multiple photos in good lighting
  • Wrap each fish in a damp plastic bag to protect the scales
  • Keep fish in separate bags to prevent loss of scales and color from contact
